Frequently Asked Questions
How much should I tip at a restaurant?
In the United States, 15% is a minimum for adequate service, 18–20% is the norm for good service, and 25% or more is a sign of exceptional service. For takeaway or counter service, 10% or a flat dollar amount is common.
Should I tip before or after tax?
Tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is technically correct, but tipping on the after-tax total is common and the difference is small. Either is acceptable — use whichever amount is shown on your bill.
How do I split a bill unevenly?
